We Help Little Patients Relax with Nitrous Oxide and Hospital Dentistry
While many children are capable of sitting through a dental procedure, some struggle with anxiety, overexcitement, or special needs that can make this difficult. In these situations, our team at Growing Smiles offers nitrous oxide gas as a way to help your son or daughter feel relaxed and at ease as we improve their smile’s health.
Dr. Kristin, Dr. Reena, Dr. Paula, and Dr. Lexi offer two treatment modalities for our patients who may not be able to tolerate treatment in a usual in-office dental setting.
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a mild anxiolytic that can help our young patients feel calmer throughout their appointment. Before treatment, we will need to know about any special healthcare needs your child has and any medication they’re currently taking.
Outpatient General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is typically reserved for severe cases or exceptionally complex/lengthy procedures. This sedation process will put your child to sleep, and it is performed at Lurie Children’s Hospital, where all of our dentists are on-staff and hold privileges. There are many important steps prior to undergoing general anesthesia, which we will help you complete. We feel fortunate that all of our dentists are in good standing with a top rated Children’s hospital allowing us to offer this type of treatment when necessary.
